Welcome

The WA Sleep Health Study (WASHS) is a world-class clinical, epidemiological and genetic and biospecimen research resource that is enabling research into sleep disorders in Western Australia.

The WASHS aims to investigate the causes, natural history and prognosis of patients with obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) in WA. OSA is an increasingly common disorder associated with serious long-term complications, including hypertension, heart attack, stroke, depression and obesity. It is characterized by sleep-induced obstruction of the upper airway leading to snoring, fragmented sleep and low blood oxygen levels. OSA is diagnosed using information obtained from an overnight sleep study.
